iMIS 15 and SQL Server

Hello,

There was a thread on this forum from last September about compatibility of iMIS 15 with SQL Server 2008. The message wasn't a good one ("failed miserably" was once phrase used). Has anyone tried or have there been any updates since that post? We're really hoping to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 and iMIS compatibility is a big obstacle.

Thank you!

Officially, SQL Server 2008

Officially, SQL Server 2008 is not supported with iMIS 15.

However, it is possible to get it to run on SQL Server 2008.

We have a couple of environments running iMIS 15.1.2.4260 with SQL Server 2008.
The only hurdle we came across was the DPUpgrader utility which was easily overcome by changing the script files that come along with the DPUpgrader utility.

Since then, iMIS 15 has been running quite smoothly.

iMIS 15 and sql 2008

Hi Nasser,

I am guessing you had to change the  SERVERPROPERTY('ProductVersion') check in all 22 .cmd files ... Was that all?

Cheers

SQL Versioning and creating

SQL Versioning and creating logins was an issue with scripts as far as i can remember.

There are a bunch of files in each upgrade folder, from memory it might have been "fixlogins" or "createlogins".

Wow, thanks for the replies.

Wow, thanks for the replies. Looks like the situation isn't as dire as previously stated. Was there any more information about 15.1.3?

15.1.3

iMIS 15.1.3 is due for release this summer (which was defined at iNNOVATIONS as "before Labor Day" in the U.S.), and it fully supports SQL Server 2008 (as well as SQL Server 2005).  It also drops support for SQL Server 2000.

There were a few other issues, beyond just version checks in various scripts, including but not limited to calls to "sp_addgroup" (a no longer supported procedure) in some stored procedures and other scripts.

15.1.3 has been thoroughly tested on SQL Server 2008.

And now, the opposite question

Paul,

iMIS 15.1.3 now supports SQL 2008 - great!  Do you happen to know if it still works on SQL 2000?  It would greatly help with transition for clients currently on 15.1.2 and SQL 2000.

15.1.3 supports SQL Server

15.1.3 supports SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008.

SQL Server 2000 is no longer supported as of iMIS 15.1.3, because this version has started taking advantage of features newly available in SQL Server 2005 that are not in SQL Server 2000.

Users of SQL Server 2000 are advised that they will need to migrate their database to SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008 prior to upgrading to iMIS 15.1.3.

OK... how about the upgrader?

OK, that's what I needed to know.

I have at least three clients I can think of who are on 10.6 thru 15.1.2 and SQL 2000, and want to move to 15.1.3.  Can they reasonably expect the DBUpgrader to run on SQL 2000, and then upgrade the database engine before starting iMIS?  Or has the DBUpgrader been retrofitted to work with SQL 2008 even if upgrading from 10.6?

The process is to migrate

The process is to migrate the database to SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008, and then upgrade it.

The DBUpgrader in 15.1.3 has been modified so that it can upgrade any version from 10.6 to 15.1.2 to 15.1.3 on SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008.

In fact, if you try to run the 15.1.3 DBUpgrader against a database (any version of iMIS) on SQL 2000, it will immediately display an error message and fail.

Then that's the plan.

OK.  What it lacks in flexibility, it makes up for in saving us from having to negotiate a decision with the client.  Thanks for the clear, unambiguous explanation, and have a good weekend.
