Installing "WCM Only' on webserver

Has anyone installed WCM in an environment which it is separate from the application serer? We installed only WCM on the web server. We copied the net folder and created a new website pointing to the copy, and followed the instructions to manually create a default website. When we created the website and moved the files over from the application server to the web server, as documented, there were still several files that were not documented that we had to move over in order for the site to function and surf to edit to work. Does anyone know why I had to move the additional files that were not documented?

Thanks,
Andie

Andie, which files were

Andie, which files were those? We've been testing WCM only internally, and I think we have them all at this point (for GA), but I'd like to confirm just to make sure. :)

The RC installer definitely was missing some files, unfortunately.

There were many

I did not document them. It was a demo installation. When I created the site and went to it, the errors showed me which files were missing. I ended up copying the whole
\net\AsiCommon\Controls\ folder but did it without replacing any of the existing files that were already installed on the web server.

I still had some issues with surf to edit after this as well. It worked but when i went to edit content the OK and Cancel buttons were hidden and not showing up. I was not sure if it was because there were still files missing or not.

I also see some possible issues with the System requirements on our web server, but the documentation does not make it clear. Can you tell me if on the system requirements when the refer to application server do those same requirements apply to the web server. None of the following is installed on the web server. Should they be?

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (ASP.NET) SP1
(includes ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions)

Microsoft Word 2007, 2003 SP2, or 2002 (XP) SP3
(Word Integration is verified with these versions)

Adobe® Reader (8.0 or later), installed on all servers and clients to print reports from within iMIS.

Indexing Service

Andie

OK, I think the GA release

OK, I think the GA release should resolve the issue; if it doesn't, TS should be able to help you one way or another.

You do need Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (ASP.NET) SP1 and the Indexing Service; the others would only be needed if you add functionality to your WCM site that allows the use of the Word Integration or report printing capabilities of iMIS; by default, they are not needed.

What about Ajax

Is the AJAX installed needed as well on the web server? Also to verify, you are saying everything that I listed is required except Word, and that only if we are not using work integration or reporting printing capabilities of iMIS. So nothing built in WCM uses those components?

Thanks,
Andie

Yes, you will need AJAX as

Yes, you will need AJAX as well.

Neither Word nor Adobe are required by WCM itself to the best of my knowledge; they would only be needed if you added content that required them.

After installing .NET 3.5 the performance changed

I installed .NET 3.5 yesterday on the web server. This was done after the site had been set up. Now there is a huge performance lag and things are really not working well, such as the login page will no longer allow me to submit or login on the website. I would only assume that this was caused by installing .NET 3.5 and Indexing after WCM was installed. Is that an accurate assumption? Any idea of the best course of action to correct this?

Thanks,
Andie

Make sure you install all

Make sure you install all the .NET updates available on Windows Update -- SP1 and its updates. You could also try doing a repair install of iMIS (after you've installed those updates, if that doesn't resolve the issue).

SP1 and all the updates are there

SP1 and all the updates are there and I also ran the repair. The repair did give me a error saying that the WCM directory could not be created when I ran it. Other than that it ran fine. There is still a huge lag and the site is taking minutes to load. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Andie

I assume you've rebooted the

I assume you've rebooted the server. :)

Is there anything in the Windows Application event log that seems relevant?

Alternately you could uninstall and reinstall WCM.

How do I uninstall a publishing service?

I am uninstalling WCM and staring over. I originally installed WCM and followed the instructions to create a website instead of using a virtual directory on the default website. What I need to know is how can I uninstall the publishing service that I manually created for the second WCM instance or website, not sure of the terminology?

When you installed the

When you installed the second instance of the publishing server, you probably ran a command similar to "installutil /ServiceName=[something] PublishService.exe". You'll need to run that same command again, only insert a "/u" between installutil and /ServiceName like so:

"installutil /u /ServiceName=[something] PublishService.exe".

That worked great however

That worked great however it will not let me delete the publishing service in iMIS. When I try to delete the second publishing service it give me an error:

PublishServer constraint violations:
PropertyName=IsDefault; Message=Cannot delete the default publish server. Select another server as the default first.; Severity=Error

Description: An unhandled exception

Do I need to remove this before reinstalling it?

I was able to delete it

I went into the PublishServerRef table. There were two publishing services set up. One had publishing code 'A' and the other 'P' and the were both had isDefault set to true. I changed isDefault to false for the one that had 'P' for the publishing code and then was able to delete it.

Can I get a list of the files that need to come from the iMIS Application server to the WCM Web Application Server? Are the files in the following link accurate?

15.1 WCM the editor is not loading for Surf to Edit

I migrated all the files listed that were not on the webserver and everything seems to be working better however the content editor is not loading. It just hangs. I can send you a screen shot if needed. I do know that MS Word is not installed on the webserver. We were told that it was only necessary if we were using MS Word Integration. Our network team does not want word installed on the server as it posses a security risk. I don't know if that could be the reason the editor is not loading, but I am just leaving it out there as a speculation. Do you have any idea why the editor would not be loading? It loads fine on the application server.

Thanks,
Andie

The content editor doesn't

The content editor doesn't use Word.

Andie, I'm about to head out on PTO until the end of next week; keep talking with TS, they should be able to discuss with others in Dev and help try to pin down the problem.

15.1 WCM Moving Files Feedback

These files were not listed and I want to make sure the are not needed:
\AsiCommon\Controls\Shared\Calendar\cal.cs
\AsiCommon\Controls\Shared\Calendar\cal.htm

The following file did not exist on the app server:
\iMIS\BSA\DocumentSystemImage.aspx

The first two shouldn't be

The first two shouldn't be needed but won't hurt anything.

The second has probably been added between RC and GA and thus won't be in your install (but will be in GA).

Access Denied

Is there a reason why I get an access denied when I try to pull up the above mentioned link?

The page currently is

The page currently is limited to RC participants; if you are an RC participant and are being denied, your iMIS Community account probably hasn't been updated to reflect that. Contact whoever you talked to for the RC program in that case.

The page will be changed to allow all iMIS Community users access once 15.1.1 is released to general availability.

Missing files in WCM Only install

How can we obtain a list of those files that are missing in the WCM only install?
