Remove notifications for subscribed communities

How can you remove the notification feature in Communities? Users are very annoyed every time someone makes an edit in a community they are getting an email. Some users are getting 10 to 15 email notifications every time a forum topic is posted.

I cant find anywhere in iMIS to stop automatic notifications. This is for subscribed users to a community.

email notifications - communities

What I need help with is on the "system" level.  I want to shut it off for all subscribers.  I know about individuals can shut it off...I want to shut it off from working.

Or at least make sure it only sends out "1" email, instead of 10 or 15 at a time to the same person.  It seems any time someone makes an update, and makes several edits, etc....it thinks its a new blog post or forum post...and then it sends out emails like crazy.  All the users are annoyed by it...

Some have automated this

Some have automated this by figuring out where the "notify me" flag lives in the database, then writing a stored procedure to set it for all users once a day.

You may want to also provide a new checkbox in their demographics to indicate they really do want notifications.  Right now you're hearing from the people who don't like it.  If you disable it for everyone, you'll probably start hearing from those who depend on the feature.
