Search engine results and content manager

I have a customer that wants to bump their site, which is a content management site, to the top of search engine results. I'm curious to know how other customers are doing this. Are you using the meta tags/descriptions in content manager or other applications to handle this?

Thanks,

Terry

Can you confirm if the "metatags/keywords" field on the content properties is used in search engines? I don't want to have a customer go through the trouble of adding all these metatags on each individual content record only to find out that it does nothing on search engines. I guess I really just need clarification on if the metatag field on the content properties record is only used in the content manager search feature OR if we can use them for SEO.

re: search engine results and content manager

There is a lot involved with obtaining top listings for search keywords. Meta tags and descriptions are a few elements search engines use, but they are only a few of many elements that go into placement on search results. The client should hire an Search Engine Optimization (SEO) firm or contractor to assist with what needs to be done for the keywords they are targeting, and then you can assist them with setting up elements that need attention in e-CM.
