To My New (and old) Friends and Colleagues,

Thank you for planning to attend the UPA Tutorial on "Creating a Custom UI Pattern Library" next week. We should have a full day on Monday and with the wonderful list of participants I expect we'll have very engaging group discussions!

I'm contacting you in advance to ask that you make sure to bring your mobile devices to class (Blackberries, Treos, cell phones, etc). In most classes you're asked to turn your mobiles off, well I'd like you to bring them and turn them on! In addition to the lecture, we'll have four small-group activities to work on application of some of the concepts. Two of those are "paper and pencil" exercises related to mobile UI design. Most of the lecture examples are web-based, but the Lab Activities based on mobile UIs will allow us to be in a room without the distraction of PCs in every seat, plus give us a chance to break away from the typical web constructs and "think outside of the box" a bit.

Some of you may not have a mobile device and that's okay (bless you for being unplugged from the Matrix!). We'll just need enough to "share" for discussion in the small-group activities.
