When to move to VS2010?

We've been using Visual Studio 2008 for some time now on the theory that it's the version ASI is using.

Is ASI still using VS2008, or have you (partially or fully) moved to VS2010?  If not, do you have plans to make the change?

Has anyone had any issues moving from VS2008 to 2010?

Has anyone found any compelling advantages of VS2010 over VS2008?  Are they big enough to justify upgrading old projects, or should I just use it for new projects and run them side-by-side?

ASI Development

ASI Development is still using VS2008 targeting .Net Framework 3.5.  This is what the code shipped with iMIS 15.1.3 was developed with.

There is no news yet on if or when this will change.

I believe VS2010 offers some significant advantages, not the least of which is support for targeting .Net 4.  If you use the ReSharper plug-in, some of  the advantages of VS2010 are available in VS2008+ReSharper,  but there are significant new tools and capabilities in VS2010, even more so when paired with TFS2010 for source control.

I've upgraded several of my iMIS VS solutions to 2010 for clients. Everything is working fine (and it has been deployed to production).

You just need to make sure to set your project to use .NET version 3.5.

I wouldn't necessarily switch to VS 2010 just for the sake of switching, but I've had some non-iMIS projects that required VS 2010 so I wanted to use 2010 consistently instead of switching back and forth.

That's why I asked.

That's exactly why I'm asking - I have a project coming up which will (apparently) require VS2010, and I'm trying to decide if it's worth keeping the side-by-side installs or just making the jump.

ASI has moved to VS 2010

This week we completed our move of new development work to Visual Studio 2010. We are still targeting the .Net 3.5 framework.

Forgot to say...

...thanks for letting us all know.  I've installed a copy of VS2010 and I'm checking it out now.  It certainly looks nicer, that's for sure.

If all looks good, I'll get the others to upgrade so we can start upgrading our solutions and projects.

The next release of iMIS

The next release of iMIS will target .Net 4.0, just FYI.

Would that be

Would that be the one we are currently hearing referred to as 15.2?
